Green by Design

The next time you’re in the Delaware County District Library’s branches, you may notice blue recycling waste baskets and collecting containers positioned throughout the buildings.  We have added these containers to make it easier for you to recycle paper, plastic and other recyclable material as part of the Library’s “Green by Design” initiative.

Libraries are perhaps the world’s first recyclers, with hundreds of people reading the same copy of a book or magazine, or watching the same copy of a DVD.  We were recycling books and other library materials long before formal recycling programs were initiated.  The addition of recycling containers for the public (and, by the way, for staff, too!) is a logical extension of our desire to help the environment and be wise with our natural resources.

Look for more recycling information in Library displays, filled with interesting facts and figures that outline compelling reasons to reuse, recycle and repurpose.  Feel free to use the containers you see at the Delaware Libraries to recycle unwanted items that you might have.  We appreciate your help in making the Library a little bit greener.
