Great Movie/Great Book

Marrying books and movies comes naturally to the staff at the Delaware County District Library.  Most of us are both avid readers and movie-goers, and I suspect many of you are, too.

On Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Orange Branch, DCDL Cinemathique will present “Apocalypse Now,” starring Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen.  Immediately following the screening, Library staff will lead a discussion of the film.  On Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Delaware (Main) Library, there will be a discussion of Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, the book upon which the movie is based.

You are welcome to participate in either or both programs, and there a limited copies of the movie and the book available at the library for you to check out.  If you’re a fan of the classics (book and movies!), you won’t want to miss this opportunity to read, watch and discuss.

Celebrating Dad

This Sunday is Father’s Day, a holiday which honors fathers worldwide.  It originated in the United States in 1910, a few years after the country began celebrating Mother’s Day. Father’s Day became an official U.S. holiday in 1972.  Traditionally, Father’s Day is a time for barbeques, backyard fun, and being together as a family.

The Delaware County District Library honors fathers all year round, with a wonderful collection of books written by and for dads.  This weekend may be the perfect time to check out some of these books, to share with your dad or for dads to share with their children.
